Drones that can be used for inspection are:
- DJI Phantom 4 Pro, RTK
- DJI M300
- DJI Inspire
- DJI Mavic 2 Pro
- DJI Mini 2 & 3
- Autel
- Skydio
At the end of the day pretty much any drone can be used for drone inspection services. Every drone has their limitations and depending on what you are inspecting really depends on what drone you can use. When we break it down to what the task at hand is, you are simply taking photos to be able to look at hard to reach spots and areas of interest.
What Is An Aerial Inspection?
Aerial inspection is the process of using drones or other aircraft to inspect an area from above. This can be useful for surveying large areas, inspecting buildings or infrastructure, or monitoring environmental conditions. Aerial inspection can provide a valuable perspective that is not possible from the ground.
If you are performing a simple roof inspection then a DJI mini 2 & 3 can easily be used to take photos for you to review. Don’t believe what you read that you need to have the biggest and best for a simple task like looking at a domestic roof.

How to choose a drone
When choosing what drone it comes down to what features you want it to have. Really between most drones on the market you are choosing what type of camera it has and how good the photos are going to be. For example you are going to have a much bigger variety of cameras when using a drone such as the DJI M300. You can have a full frame camera with 45MP in every image or attach a thermal camera and take thermal images or video. But if you choose a DJI Phantom 4 Pro you are still getting a fantastic image from a 1 inch sensor with 20MP images. That is more than enough for inspections. However you are limited to only one camera type. This is much the same with any DJI consumer drones. DJI’s enterprise series allows you to have much more flexibility on what type of camera systems you can use and they are really built and designed to be used with emergency services and serious drone service companies. The benefits of using drones will vary depending on which model you decide to go with.
What Is The Best Drone For Beginners?
If you are just starting out and wanting to be able to offer inspection services it would better to start with a DJI Mavic 2 pro, DJI Phantom 4 Pro or even a DJI Mini 3 in some instances before you jump up to an M300. You do need to have a big reason to invest that amount of money into a drone for only inspection work. Don’t always believe what you read online with people saying ‘you need X drone for X job’ it’s simply not the case.
